Australasia Gaelic Games has received official recognition from Sport New Zealand, marking a significant milestone for Gaelic games in the country.
This recognition confirms Australasia Gaelic Games as the peak body for the sports of Gaelic football, hurling and camogie in New Zealand, affirming its role in fostering and promoting Gaelic games in the country.
The recognition underlines Gaelic games’ growth in the country – with 10 clubs and just under 500 players across Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington in 2025, the games are in rude health in New Zealand.
It also reflects the association’s commitment to delivering high-quality sporting opportunities that align with national standards for sports governance and development.
Ned Sheehy, Chairperson of Australasia Gaelic Games, said, “Receiving recognition from Sport New Zealand is a proud moment for our community in New Zealand. It highlights the dedication of our clubs, volunteers, and players who have worked tirelessly to grow Gaelic games, and it brings a legitimacy to help us further develop our games in the country.”
