Congratulations to the Australasia under-15 girls team who won the 2026 Féile Peile na nÓg Division 5 Plate in Derry on Saturday 27 June.
Hosted in Ballerin, Derry, the team played four games, with one draw and loss in the group stages followed by a plate semi-final and final win.
The girls’ first group game was against Warwickshire where they landed 3 goals to earn a draw – 3-2 to 2-5. Up next was Annaduff and the Leitrim side proved too strong, overcoming our girls by 1-3 to 0-1.
Onto the plate semi-final and it was a convincing 10-point win over hosts Ballerin before facing fellow travelling team North East Boston. It was a competitive game of football, but our girls got the upper hand and came away with a 5-point win – 2-7 to 2-2. It’s was an excellent result for the team and a testament to the great work happening in developing Gaelic games across Australasia.
Congratulations and thank you to all the players, management, families, clubs, sponsors and everyone who made this tremendous achievement possible.
The girls also visited Croke Park and saw some live Gaelic football action amongst the game’s best players before playing warm-up games against Killyclogher and Watty Grahams, Glen.
The successful tournament aside, it was a week of fun, newfound friendships, great learnings and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these up-and-coming players.
