Sinn Féin GAC is a Gaelic Athletic club based in Melbourne that was formed in 1953, making it the oldest existing Australasian Gaelic Athletic Club.
In 1953, Sinn Féin began with just two teams in men’s football and hurling. Over seven decades later, we look back with pride at how far we have come. Our club has grown to over 200 adult members and we now field 7 teams across 4 codes: camogie, hurling (senior and intermediate), women’s football senior and intermediate and men’s football senior and intermediate, who compete in the Gaelic Games Victoria league and championship.
In 2025, the club proudly made history by becoming the first Melbourne club to offer ‘Gaelic4Mothers&Others‘ – an innovative way to introduce mothers and other women to play women’s Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment. Gaelic4Mothers&Others provides an opportunity for women to get weekly exercise in a fun way while meeting other women in the area.
Together with Wolfe Tones, the club co-host the annual Paddy Fitzgerald Super 11’s tournament in Melbourne each November.
Sinn Féin has been a welcoming club to all people throughout the years. People have formed lifelong friendships, relationships, marriages and families from all over Ireland and beyond. Whether they were formed on the field of play, the training ground, or at social events, people tend to stay together within the club for years to come. It is a testament to the culture that was formed by our older members and club stalwarts.
Sinn Féin is more than a club, it’s a community. We welcome all and would encourage you to come along, be part of it all and meet your future clubmates.
